B: Beyond electrification – fueling the European energy transition with Nordic Green Carbon

Location:Martinikerk - de LibrijeTrack:Parallel session

Direct electrification has advanced significantly in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, with all four nations leading Europe in the share of renewables within their electricity mixes. However, direct electrification alone will not suffice to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors. Consequently, several Nordic initiatives are pushing beyond electrification towards the production of green molecules, such as e-fuels and sustainable feedstocks, that can play a pivotal role in the energy transition.

This parallel session will delve deeper into how green carbon captured in the Nordics can accelerate the energy transition beyond their borders by showcasing concrete projects and initiatives from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. Expert presentations will explore various topics including bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), intermediate storage of CO₂, the production of green molecules, and the evolving regulatory landscape followed by a concluding panel discussion.

The session will also emphasize the importance of cooperation, both internally among the Nordic countries and externally with partners such as the Netherlands and other international stakeholders, in strengthening and accelerating the global energy transition.
